About

Mid infrared FTIR spectrometer which allows for a spectroscopic analysis of samples and surfaces in the mid-infrared range.

Description

A Bruker mid infrared FTIR spectrometer which allows for a spectroscopic analysis of samples in the mid-infrared range. In this wavelength range, organic samples typically have absorption bands which are characteristic for the molecular structure and can therefore be used in analysing and identification of a broad range of analytes. Samples can be measured in transmission mode as well as in reflection mode.

Technical specifications:

  • FTIR spectrum in the range from 4000-4000 cm-1
  • Detection in transmission and ATR configuration (one reflection, diamond crystal)
  • Type of sample: translucent samples for transmission measurement-(ideally in slide form)
  • For ATR: most bulk samples and also liquids; good contact must be ensured between the measurement crystal and the sample

Case study:

In the PhD work a self assembled molecular organic field effect transistor is developed. After the processing step in the solution, the candidate wants to evaluate the presence of the amine groups on the surface on which further molecules will be attached. After the study the candidate can decide for the best experimental protocol in which the amine groups are well identified.
